Uses and Gratification

Uses and gratification are the main uses of media text. There are 4 uses and gratifications that I have to consider when producing my trailer:

In terms of the horror trailer, the main uses and gratifications that we will have to focus on are personal relationship, and escapism.

The trailer needs to satisfy personal relationship, since this will be a natural source of promotion, which would be vital when creating awareness.

It would also be vital to focus on escapism

Voice Manipulation Practice

We messed around with Adobe Soundbooth to create some effects to sound. I have taken the original voiceover and have added effects to create different types of audio.

Trailer Title Manipulation Practice

I have been told to produce two titles which has two different representations of horror. These titles were created through Adobe Photoshop, and I used two different texts. The texts I've used are as follows:

For the first title, I have chosen to make it like this, as I intend to give off a gory kind of vibe through this typography. I wanted to give off the effect that it was a bloodstained title, through the dominance of red. I have also applied a Gaussian blur effect behind this typography not only to keep ti from looking bland, but to also make it seem that the blood is smeared behind the text. The dripping effect also helps to create that blood effect I was looking for, as it looks like the blood is dripping off the text. To help emphasise the gory effect of this photo, I believe that using blood would be the main focus of this, as in a lot of gory horror films, you would expect blood more than anything else.

In this title, I have used a motion blur effect behind the text to help suggest a unstable mind.

Everything happens for a reason/Shot Types

In media, we have been told at everything in a trailer happens for a reason. This means that every clip is there for a reason. This was reinforced by this video by Okay Go:

What the term "every clip is there for a reason" means that every clip has a significant meaning behind it. A brief example of this is through shot types:
